The jNWG’s first scientific meeting for early-career neuroscientists, the “NeuroCon 2021”, was successfully held at the Wissenschaftszentrum Schloss Reisensburg near Ulm from 5-7th November 2021. 43 participants (from Bachelor students to postdoctoral fellows) from 17 different cities joined the in-person meeting and shared their research in nine oral presentations and on 25 posters covering various neuroscience disciplines. By the participants’ votes, the best talk- and best poster-prizes were awarded to PhD student Lena Erlebach (Tübingen) and master student Carolin Koreny (Würzburg) – congratulations to the winners!
Additional highlights were keynote lectures by Dr. Sanja Bauer Mikulovic (Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology, Magdeburg) and Dr. Rainer Schwarting (Philipps-Universität Marburg), providing entertaining insights into their research and their career path, as well as valuable career advice to the early-career participants.
Furthermore, two extensive half-day workshops on “Science Communication” and “Data Visualization” by Dr. Bradley van Paridon (freelance science writer from Marburg, @bvanparidon) and Dr. Tracey Weissgerber (meta-researcher at QUEST center of the BIH, Charité Berlin, @T_Weissgerber), respectively, gave the NeuroCon a strong skill-building touch.
Finally, four evening discussion rounds introduced interested participants to tools for the organization of scientific literature, time- and self-management, digital lab books, as well as how to use social media in science.

The NeuroCon 2021 organisers wish to thank the following supporters which enabled free registration, accommodation, and catering at Schloss Reisensburg for all young scientists by their generous support: Gemeinnützige Hertie-Stiftung, Avisoft Bioacoustics, the German Neuroscience Society, Chroma Technology Corporation, AHF analysentechnik AG, Hello Bio Ltd, Hölzel Diagnostika Handels GmbH, The Jackson Immunoresearch Laboratories Inc., Miltenyi Biotech & Thor Labs Inc.

Moreover, please stay tuned for updates and spread the word, as planning for the NeuroCon 2022 has just started! The jNWG also looks forward to having you on board. For more details, please visit https://jnwg.org/neurocon2021/.
